A preliminary review of the mutual research of Negev was help in December 2007. This review summarizes the work done by Negev WP committee towards the implementation of common use cases as part of the Negev demonstration in year 3. Negev members presented the following use : Personalized Service Environment with aggregation of multiple Content Recommendation methods; Personalized Ads selection and ads concatenation for linear content, Personalized Ads selection and ads insertion over the content for IPTV and Personalized Delivery with ads for mobile video.

Negev Academy Seminar

March, 2007

Negev Academic research presented their work in a seminar held on March 2007. Prof. Kraus from the Bar-Ilan university presented methods for clustering of users according to usage patterns. Prof. Gadi Ariav from the Tel Aviv University described the way decision support system (DSS) methodology is used for designing the personal content environment. Dr. Ido Dagan from the Bar-Ilan university talked about semi automatic taxonomization of of video content file. Dr. Dina Goren-Bar from the Haifa university presented methods for identifying user preferences using dynamic profiles. Prof. Shmuel Peleg from the Hebrew university discussed preparation of media content for personal use using automatic video summary. Nimrod Peleg presented the work done in Prof. Malah’s group from the Technion for insertion of video over video in the compressed domain. Dr. Boaz-Patt Shamir and Dr. Yuval Shavit presented algorithm for network resource optimization.

Negev held its first Design Review

November, 2006

R&D leaders from the participating companies and academic research groups of Negev joint together for the first Design Review of the project. The Design review was dedicated to review to status and the mid-term results of each of the 10 Work Packages of Negev. Following the DR, cross committee coordination will take place and common architectural issues will be defined in the Negev System Committee.

Negev presented in IPTV panel

November, 2006

Negev project was presented in an IPTV panel that took place in November 2006 as part of the Telecom Israel events in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Panel Chairman, Ervin Leibovici who is the CEO of BitBand, reviewed the IPTV area in Israel with a specific focus to the Negev project. Mr. Ziv Ringer, Negev manager, was a member of the panel and responded to the audience questions.

Negev in Magnet Consortia day

October, 2006

Negev project was presented in a Magnet seminar for communication consortia in Israel. Benny Einhorn, Negev chairman, gave an overview of Negev and its current status. Other Negev speakers reviewed the R&D challenges in the Service, Content and Delivery areas.

Negev contribution to IST

July, 2006

Negev has submitted a contribution to the Information Communications Technologies (ICT) towards the Sep 2006 workshop. The contribution it titled : "The future of multimedia services and broadcast technologies".

Negev R&D committees has been launched

June, 2006

Negev has established ten work pack committees for the planning and coordination of the joint research and development work. The committees consist of representatives from the companies and the academic researchers who invest R&D in each of those areas. Negev work packages cover the major challenges of the project : The Personal Service Environment, The Service Mobility, The Consumer Profile, The Consumer Context, The Content Matching, The Content Management, The Content Storage and distribution, The Content Preparation, The Content Adaptation and the Content Routing and delivery.

Negev Kickoff

May, 2006

Negev participants, the companies and researchers gathered to coordinate their joint R&D. Presentations were held by each of the seven industrial R&D groups : Comverse, Orca, BitBand, Scopus, SintecMedia, Optibase and Mobixell and the eight academic research groups : Prof. David Malah, Prof. Boaz Patt-Shamir, Prof, Sarit Kraus, Prof. Gad Ariav, Prof. Shmuel Peleg, Prof. Hadas Shachnai, Dr. Ido Dagan and Dr. Dina Goren Bar.

Negev Consortium has been launched

May, 2006

On May 1st 2006 Negev was born.
Following a long planning and coordination process, Magnet committee, headed by Dr. Eli Oper, the chief scientist in the ministry of industry, trade and labor approved the operation of Negev consortium for the next 3 years.
The estimated budget of Negev for the next 3-4 years is 20 million USD.
